I've mained brewmaster / mistweaver for most of this expansion with no problems at all. To answer the OP I think monks have done just fine. I and everyone I know that are returning in WoD will meet every monk and panda alike with animosity and hate.You mean to say after however many years of WoW and at least an 18mth break, neither you nor any of your friends have grown up? I'm so sorry, I hope it happens eventually. The damage it can do is pretty good too, but because haste-stacking paladins removing debuffs through 5.2 has been so incredibly dominant and strong, monk really never rose to 'must have'. It's definitely considered a viable spec, it's a tad unforgiving though (if you stack only crit, not dodging 3 times in a row is basically you dead), but definitely not overpowered or something.

Never been awful really.īrewmaster is my personal favorite, plays a lot different from the other tank specs (warr pala and druid all have 'generate rage/HoPo with abilities, use it up on temporary buffs that won't have full uptime, while the monk's Shuffle needs to be up 24/7, and the active mitigation is more based on the purifying brew to clear staggered damage, and elusive brew to get a dodge buff), is considered to be the least 'simple' of the 5. Great mana regen, I personally dislike the playstyle (HoTs flying in random directions and having CD to apply them, the 'normal' 'spammable' heal having a 50% random ('smart') component too, and not-stacked AE-healing is kinda odd too, but that's just from doing some LFR trying to get a feel of it), but their HPS combined with great mana regen (requiring relatively little spirit on gear) made them real good, and considered OP during several patches. Windwalker has an awful reputation as far as how fun they are to play, and you don't really see them all that much, but DPS wise they should be okayish, still seen some threads here and there suggesting the 'optimal' way to play hasn't fully been figured out yet tho, but they aren't awful. I also understand a lot of people really enjoy tanking as Monks so it's understandable if lots of you have information to share from a tank's perspective. Im mostly interrested in DPS and Healing, but ofc any input on BrewM is appreciated as well. Some classes, like rogue for example as I played, and also warriors usually shine brighter later into the expansions, due to gear scaling better or something like that, I dont know.

This didnt quite happen with Monks though, right? How were they actually doing? Back in WotLK, IIRC, Death Knights were vastly overpowered so they would attract new players and the fact that it was a 'hero class'. But after some reading now I get the feeling that they did good dps but didnt bring any raid buffs as DPS, so they werent really needed anyhow, atleast not in a 10 man environment. That's the feeling I had during release atleast. The basics ofc I (think) know good tanking, good aoe healing and average dps. Now the thing is, some of my friends are coming back and haven't been in a 'top guild' since TBC, and I felt kind of isolated in my 10man during MoP (only played 3 months or so) so I cant really tell them anything about monks when they ask. We had 3 druids, 1 shaman, 1 rogue, 1 mage, 1 DK, 1 warlock, 2 priests. Since our core didn't change at all basically, I never got to see the class Monk in a high end competetive environment. So back when I played last time, during MoP release, I was raiding pretty much with the same 9-10 guys I've raided with the last 2-3 years.
